Nigerian music Twitter woke up to a fresh bit of drama this weekend, and it started with a simple wish for friends.

How it started

Young Jonn, the producer-turned-singer, posted that he wanted about five "bad friends" to move with in bulk. In Pidgin slang, that means a tight, impressive crew, not a bad influence.

Blaqbonez saw an opening and jumped into the replies with a friendly offer: "Oya, make we dey together, sing as one." It looked like a harmless bit of banter, and possibly the start of a collaboration.

The receipts

Young Jonn had other plans. Instead of accepting, he dug up a tweet from 2015 in which Blaqbonez said he preferred DJ Coublon to him. He shared a screenshot with a short reply: "Go sing as one with Coublon."

It was a polite-looking refusal with a sting in it. The old tweet was about producers, so it was a verdict on Young Jonn's original craft, long before he became a singer with hits of his own. Bringing it back over a decade later was a reminder that the internet forgets nothing.

Blaqbonez's defence

Blaqbonez didn't deny the tweet exists. He said he didn't write it, and that his social media handler posted it back in 2015. Neither artist has shared anything that settles that claim, so it's a case of his word against a screenshot.

Was it serious?

Probably not. Nigerian artists often turn public jokes and old grudges into content, and both men have a playful, competitive streak online. The reply reads more like a friendly roast than a real feud. Still, a collab between the two now looks unlikely unless someone extends an olive branch, or the joke gets a sequel.

Our take

Two lessons from this one. Old tweets never really go away, and if you want to be part of someone's squad, it helps not to have publicly picked another producer a decade ago. We'll see whether Blaqbonez and Young Jonn end up in the studio anyway, or whether DJ Coublon gets the last laugh.
